Visitor visit length

If you asked me what my most visited website, I would says statcounter. Almost visited daily and had been using it for quite sometimes. Although there are Google analytic which have better GUI but I still prefer statcounter because it allowed you to keep track of recent visitor activity in just one page with referrer url, country, hostname and visited length. Like most webmasters, I put a lot of attention towards unique visitors and page views, these figures are important because it show how many real being accessed your website. But after carefully compared between one site to another, it shows that site with longer visit length will attract revisit rate than site that does not have long visit length. It could be cause by many factors, not talking about established website, for example blog can hardly achieve from 5 mins to 20 mins length unless you have a long post with attractive content and interaction for visitors.

The reason why visit length is important because you can know exactly what your site offer interest your visitors and they are willing to spend more time on your site. If they are searching from search engine and being referred to your site and do stay longer, which mean they have found what they want and you had succeed to offer what they want and they will come back. This is important point to consider to increasing your visit length. Another thing is when your visit length increases, your pageview increase and when your pageview increase your Alexa ranking increase not to say if your site runs Google adsense, you will get higher chances that your adsense ads to be clicked.

Sites that normally get longer visit length are forum, database driven site, articles site, gaming site, site with photo album, news site and chatroom. Blog can get longer visit length too if only you can find a ways to include your blog with all the features mentioned and most importantly good content which first drawn the visitors to your site.
